Increase your energy naturally
From a subtle shift to complete nervous system calm, these energetic tools can support your health goals
Life can feel like a constant juggling act, leaving us tired, over-committed, and wondering where all our energy has gone. Balancing work, family, and personal goals can often feel like we are constantly running to stand still. And often we do it on an empty tank. We often look to supplements, diary optimisation or sleep schedules to regain our energy but it can be so much more simple than that!
Energy practices can take just a few minutes of your time each day, they are easy to do, are low or no cost and are perfect for even the busiest of schedules.
Here are some of my current favourites and how they can help you feel more balanced, energised, and in control.

1. Breathwork: Finding Calm
In 2022 I completed a breathwork training programme to help support my clients in reducing stress and feeling more energised. Breathwork is a game-changer when it comes to calming the nervous system, improving digestion, reducing bloating and boosting your energy levels. By intentionally controlling your breath, you can shift your body out of stress mode (fight or flight) and into a state of relaxation and repair.
Why it works:
Activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety.
Increases oxygen flow to the brain, improving focus and mental clarity.
Balances energy levels, making you feel revitalised without the need for caffeine.
Puts your body into rest and digest mode, allow you to absorb nutrients more easily and reducing bloating.
Try this: Box breathing. Inhale for a count of four, hold your breath for four, exhale for four, and hold again for four. It takes just 16 seconds. You deserve at least 16 seconds out of 24 hours.
Why do it? Clients who incorporate breathwork into their day often report feeling calmer, sleeping better, and handling challenges with more resilience.
2. Body Scan: Tuning Out Stress
When was the last time you checked in with your body? A body scan is a mindfulness practice that helps you release physical tension and reconnect with how you’re really feeling.
Why it works:
Promotes self-awareness by identifying areas of tension or discomfort.
Encourages relaxation and reduces muscle tightness.
Helps you develop a deeper connection between your mind and body.
Try this: I do body scans a little bit differently because we can have a difficult relationship with our body, I like to tune with gratitude for what each part of the body does, rather than just feeling into it which can feel stressful. Take 5-10 minutes to sit or lie down in a quiet space. Slowly bring your attention to each part of your body, starting at your toes and working your way up to your head.
Say thank you to each part for what it has done for you e.g.
thank you to my toes for brining me to the beach and allowing me to feel the warm water trickle through them on a hot day
thank you to my feet for walking me to the gym or to my favourite place
thank you to my thighs for being powerful enough to allow me to run, be flexible and power through my yoga/pilates/spin class
thank you to my arms for allowing me to hug my loved ones
thank you to my eyes for seeing the beautiful smiles of my family/children/friends etc etc.
Benefits for you: My clients love this practice for its grounding effects. It’s especially useful for those with busy lives who feel disconnected from their bodies. A regular body scan can help you feel more present and centred throughout your day.
3. EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique/Tapping
EFT, or tapping, is a powerful tool for releasing emotional blockages and reducing stress. I learned this technique as part of stress management CPD programme during the first COVID lockdowns. I’ve been using it myself and with some clients ever since. In season 2 of the Good Honest Talk podcast I get into this area and NLP.
EFT works by gently tapping on specific acupressure points while acknowledging your feelings, you can restore balance to your body’s energy system.
Why it works:
Helps to calm the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for the stress response.
Reduces anxiety and emotional overwhelm in minutes.
Encourages self-compassion and a positive mindset.
It can be used after or before a stressful event.
Try this: Choose an issue that’s bothering you and rate its intensity on a scale of 1-10. Use your fingertips to tap gently on key points (e.g., side of the hand, eyebrows, side of the eye, under the nose) while repeating a phrase like, "Even though I feel [stress/anxiety], I deeply and completely accept myself." Repeat for a few minutes, then reassess the intensity of your feelings. If you would like more information, please let me know.
Benefits for you: Many of my clients find EFT incredibly empowering. It’s like having a stress-release button at your fingertips! Regular tapping can help you feel more in control of your emotions and energy levels.
4. Gentle, Somatic Movements
When energy levels are low, intense exercise can feel like too much. Gentle somatic movement is the perfect antidote, helping you release stuck energy while nurturing your body. In 2023 I studied Positive Intelligence coaching which delved into somatic techniques. I’d also highly recommend Anchored by Deb Dana as a source of practical information and exercises. Children are excellent at this, they stop, sway their arms, pull their earlobes, and move around to shake off this energy.
Why it works:
Releases stored tension and emotional blockages.
Increases circulation and energy flow without depleting your reserves.
Promotes mindfulness by focusing on the body’s sensations.
Try this: Spend 3 moving or dancing to your favourite music. Focus on moving intuitively—there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Not suitable for work? Try pressing your thumb and index finger together lightly, slowly rub them together until you can feel the ridges on tip of your index finger, then try to feel the ridges on the tip of your thumb with your index finger. This calms the nervous system quickly and increases your energy.
Why do it? Somatic movement can quickly shift your mood and energy, leaving you feeling lighter, calmer and a better decision maker. Clients often tell me it’s their go-to when they need a quick reset during the day or to calm they’re nerves during a meeting or presentation.
5. Energy healing
Energy healing like Reiki, Prana Nadi, Shamanic Journeys or Pranic healing might sound a bit woo woo but research shows that these gentle energy healing practice promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and encourages the body’s natural ability to heal. Before I was a nutritional therapist, I explored energy healing to help me manage the stress of my corporate job. I became a Reiki master, and I’m a level 3 Prana Nadi practitioner. During a session, the practitioner channels energy through their hands to the client, either by lightly touching or hovering over the body. I can do this during a consultation on request.
Why it works:
Encourages a deep state of relaxation, which is proven to support mental and physical well-being.
Balances the body’s energy flow, which can help alleviate emotional and physical discomfort.
Has been used within the NHS to complement traditional treatments, particularly in oncology and palliative care, as a way to help patients manage stress and improve quality of life.
Why try this? While energy healing is typically provided by a trained practitioner, you can bring its principles into your life by setting aside time to focus on self-care and mindfulness. Alternatively, you can book a session with a registered practitioner and spend an hour in a relaxing, restorative, cosy environment.
Benefits for you: Many of my clients describe energy healing as deeply soothing, helping them to feel more grounded and at peace. It’s a wonderful tool for those seeking a holistic way to manage stress and boost their overall energy levels.
Why These Tools Work So Well Together
What I love most about these practices is how they complement each other. Breathwork calms the mind, the body scans increases awareness, gentle movement helps release tension and recharge your energy, EFT provides emotional release, and energy healing offers deep relaxation and energy balance. Together, they create a holistic approach to feeling more balanced and in control.
Which one calls to you? How can you bring that into your day.
